Which laser wavelength can be used for which disease?
Blue (450nm) laser light is most effective down to a depth of 0.5 cm near the skin surface, and is therefore important for treating superficial lesions.
It also penetrates the thin nasal mucosa and reaches the haemoglobin, which is important for oxygen and nutrient supply, through a dense network of blood vessels.
In dogs and cats, shining light on the skin of the jugular fossa can have the same effect.
The infrared (808nm) laser light is absorbed in deeper layers (its biological effect is up to 8-10 cm deep), making it an excellent therapy for musculoskeletal diseases, where it has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect and accelerates the healing of muscles, tendons and joints.
At higher doses it is also suitable for regeneration of articular cartilage surfaces and cartilage.
