This trainer is designed specifically for teaching theory and anatomy, as well as learning the skills of prehospital chest trauma and chest drainage care. On the right side of the simulator are two windows showing the anatomical relationships between the skin surface, muscles, ribs and lungs. On the left side is a simulated tension pneumothorax that can be pressurized using a pump. The simulator also has access for surgical insertion of chest drains to practice draining fluid from the pleural space to treat pleural effusions. The color, volume, and viscosity of the fluid are controlled by the instructor. This chest drainage manikin is particularly useful for teaching the concepts and mechanical operation of closed-loop drainage systems similar to "pleural evac" coils. The simulator comes with a carrying case and also includes 5 spare inserts for each of the two accesses.
