This osteoporosis model consists of three vertebrae cut in the median plane with intervertebral discs. The cut surface of the upper vertebra shows a healthy bone structure, while the median plane shows an osteoporotic bone structure. The lower vertebra shows advanced osteoporosis with depressed top and base plates, also known as "fish vertebrae". The osteoporotic vertebral bones have a markedly reduced density. The osteoporosis model is mounted on a sturdy base and the individual vertebrae can be removed from the stand for detailed viewing.
