The outer part of the cornea contains the large lacrimal gland, muscle bundles, optic nerve and blood vessels. To study the internal features, the iris/cornea unit can be removed, as can the functional lucite lens, which magnifies and produces an inverted image. Removal of the transparent vitreous body reveals the cornea and retina, together with the blind spot and yellow spots containing the fovea.
